M’Hamid is a quiet desert town in southern Morocco, about 40 km from the Algerian border. It’s the last stop before the true, wild Sahara takes over. Once you leave the paved road here, you’re stepping into endless dunes, silence, and starlit skies.
This small village is less busy than Merzouga, offering a more peaceful and authentic desert experience. You’ll still find camels, desert camps, and welcoming Berber families—but with fewer tourists around. From M’Hamid, you can take a 4×4 or camel trek deeper into the Sahara, toward the remote Erg Chigaga dunes, some of the highest and most beautiful in Morocco.
M’Hamid feels like the edge of the world—a place to slow down, drink sweet mint tea, and let time disappear. The sunrises here are soft and golden, and the nights are quiet, with stars so bright they light up the sand.
If you’re looking for real desert life, M’Hamid is the perfect starting point.
