The Heart of the Sahara

Erg Chigaga Dunes

Deep in the desert beyond M’Hamid, the Erg Chigaga dunes rise like golden waves, untouched and wild. These are among the biggest dunes in Morocco, some reaching over 300 meters high, and they stretch as far as the eye can see.

Unlike the more visited Erg Chebbi near Merzouga, Erg Chigaga is remote and peaceful. There are no roads here—just sand, sky, and silence. To reach it, you need a 4×4 vehicle or a camel caravan from M’Hamid. The journey itself is part of the magic: crossing rocky plains, dry riverbeds, and scattered palm groves until the dunes appear on the horizon.

Here, you can walk barefoot in soft golden sand, watch the sunset paint the desert in warm colors, and spend the night in a Berber tent under a sky full of stars. There’s no Wi-Fi, no noise—just the wind, the dunes, and your thoughts.

Erg Chigaga is perfect for those who want to disconnect, explore, and feel the raw beauty of the Sahara.
